SAMI VALAVAARA
GUITAR, BASS & UKULELE
Sami Valavaara is a guitarist, singer, teacher, and freelance musician. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Rocky Mountain College and has been playing guitar since he was 11 years old. With over 20 years of experience, Sami has developed a versatile playing style that ranges from metal and rock to country, folk, worship, and acoustic music.
As a teacher, Sami enjoys helping students build confidence, creativity, and a deeper understanding of music. He teaches guitar, bass, and ukulele, with a focus on practical skills, strong fundamentals, rhythm, strumming, and helping each student grow in the style of music they love. He is also developing an online teaching website with lesson materials, videos, and curriculum to support students outside of their weekly lessons.
In addition to teaching, Sami works as a freelance guitarist around Calgary, performing in country, acoustic, and live music settings. He is also a solo artist, songwriter, and recording musician, bringing his experience as both a performer and creator into his lessons. Sami’s goal is to help students not only improve on their instrument, but also develop a lasting love for music.
