OAITSE HELLARD

VOICE & PIANO

Born in Maun, Botswana and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Oaitse Hellard is a vocalist and pianist whose musical voice blends Jazz, R&B, Soul, and African rhythmic traditions. Classically trained in piano and deeply rooted in vocal harmony — especially in her native Setswana language — she brings both technical precision and cultural richness to her teaching and performance.

With over 20 years of teaching experience across multiple studios, Oaitse specializes in voice, piano, and music theory. She has successfully prepared students for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations and university entrance auditions, helping musicians build strong fundamentals while developing artistic confidence and expression.

Oaitse has performed extensively across Western Canada, appearing at venues and events including the Calgary Jazz Festival, Ironwood Stage & Grill, King Eddy, Alvin’s Jazz Club, Jubilee Auditorium, Yardbird Suite (Edmonton), and numerous concert series throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. She has also been featured on CTV News and performed with the Spiritual Essence Gospel Choir.

Her touring credits include performing with the Ray Charles Tribute Orchestra alongside Grammy Award winner Donald Ray Johnson and former Ray Charles Band bassist John Gray. She also had the honour of opening for Coretta Scott King at the Jubilee Auditorium as a soloist with the Spiritual Essence Gospel Choir.

At Cornerstone Music Café, Oaitse is passionate about guiding students of all ages to discover their voice, develop musical fluency, and connect emotionally with music.
