Nik Focht.
Nik has always had a large interest in music. He started playing piano at the age of ten and for two years he learned the basic musical theory that would give him a solid foundation in the musical universe. He didn’t practice that often for in a lot of ways he hadn’t discovered much of the beauty in music yet. But in grade 6 he started to have a strong fascination with drumming, and with the support of his parents they rented him Ludwig beginners drum set. This became his prime instrument which he seemed to have a natural talent at and he started taking weekly drum lessons. After stopping piano lessons when he was twelve he began teaching himself guitar, playing almost religiously throughout junior high. He was now listening to rock and pop and his main aspirations all became revolved around music playing and to someday play in an awesome band. He played in the school band through-out Junior High and High School playing percussion in concert bands and drums in jazz band. The highlight of this for him was playing in Lord Beaverbrook’s highly regarded Jazz 1 ensemble. Also since then he has been in many bands, and currently plays with a psychedelic progressive rock band that goes by the name “Normal Force”, playing guitar, piano, synthesizers, bass, and drums. His musical likings are in Jazz, Rock, Pop, Classical, and Electronic. Wishing to have another outlet to exercise his talents and help others and having extensive knowledge in Swing, Latin, Funk and Rock drumming he started teaching drums at cornerstone in early 2007. A key goal for him to accomplish with every student is to help them unlock their individual musical creativity and move forward from there to find what it is they truly love to play and allow them to play it the best. Nik’s future is unclear but it is guaranteed to hold music in some way.
